IJ Kunst Collectief

A modular visual identity and website for IJ Kunst Collectief — designed to showcase both individual artistic voices and the collective’s shared vision.

Task

A delicate balance between individuality and unity. The biggest challenge was designing a visual identity that honoured the diversity of the collective—each artist with their own voice, medium, and rhythm—while still creating a strong and cohesive brand experience. I had to find that fine line between allowing space for artistic freedom and curating a framework that holds everything together. Through careful listening, design intuition and strategic choices, the result became a visual system that both supports and elevates each individual within the whole.

  • Strategy

Collective identity through curated clarity. The strategy focused on creating a brand framework that could grow with the collective. Rather than imposing a strict identity, I developed a flexible system that reflects the values of IJ Kunst Collectief: openness, experimentation, and connection. The brand strategy was rooted in clarity and cohesion — enabling each artist to shine while reinforcing the collective voice. Design choices were guided by usability, recognisability and rhythm — both in print and digital touchpoints — to ensure consistency without compromising the individuality of its members.

  • Design

Designing space for artistic resonance. The design approach was guided by rhythm, refinement and restraint. With multiple artists involved, the visual system needed to support, not compete with, the work it represents. I focused on typography and layout as structuring elements, allowing artworks to breathe while maintaining visual consistency. Art direction was intuitive yet intentional — ensuring the tone felt accessible, contemporary and quietly confident. The result is a brand and website that feels curated rather than constructed, where design subtly holds space for the art to speak.
